Natural Language Processing Research is an Open Access journal which means that all articles published in the journal are immediately and permanently free to read, download, copy & distribute under the terms of the applicable user license. To publish an Open Access article in this journal, authors are requested to pay an Article Publication Charge (APC) which is due on acceptance of the manuscript. Please refer to the section directly below for details on pricing.
The fee for publishing an Open Access article in Natural Language Processing Research is EUR 900 per accepted manuscript. Submission of articles to this journal is free of charge.
Promotional discount: All articles submitted on or before 31 December 2024 will receive a 30% discount on the APC price upon acceptance. This means a discounted APC of EUR 630 per accepted manuscript.
APC waivers and discounts: Authors from certain countries may be eligible for APC waivers or discounts based on the HINARI (Research4Life) policy. Moreover, certain article types are exempted from paying APCs and in some cases society-owned journals may offer APC discounts or waivers to their members. For more details on eligibility for APC waivers or discounts, please refer to the section on APC Waivers and Discounts in our Open Access & Publication Fees policy.
Note: If an article is eligible for multiple APC discounts based on the above policies, then only one of these discounts can be applied at any given time. Different APC discounts may not be applied simultaneously to the same article.
The copyright of all articles which are published in Natural Language Processing Research remains with the Authors, i.e. Authors retain full ownership of their published work. Upon acceptance of an article, Authors are requested to sign a Journal Publishing Agreement in which they grant Athena International Publishing an exclusive publication license. Under this license, Authors grant the following rights to the publisher:

All articles published in Natural Language Processing Research are Open Access, meaning that they are immediately and permanently accessible for free on the Athena International Publishing platform. A Creative Commons (CC) user license subsequently defines how end users can reuse those articles after publication.
Articles in Natural Language Processing Research are published under the CC BY-NC 4.0 license, meaning that end users can freely share an article (i.e. copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format) and adapt it (i.e. remix, transform and build upon the material), on the condition that proper attribution is given (i.e. appropriate credit, a link to the license and an indication if any changes were made; all in such a way that does not suggest that the licensor endorses the user or the use) and the material is only used for non-commercial purposes.
Note that Authors must accept this CC license when signing the Journal Publishing Agreement upon acceptance of their manuscript. However, in exceptional cases other user licenses can be applied to individual articles to comply with government regulations or funding mandates. Authors which are required by mandate to deviate from the standard user license are requested to contact Athena International Publishing by sending an email to rights@athena-publishing.com immediately on acceptance of their article. Note that once applied to a published article a Creative Commons user license is non-revocable and cannot be changed anymore.
