Russian style - Abstract
This article is devoted to the development of one of the largest cities of the Upper Volga region – Kostroma – in the late 19th to early 20th century. The urban framework of the city, which was formed at the end of the 18th – beginning of the 19th century, changed slightly during the period under review due to the growth of industrial enterprises (mainly textile) and the population. The stable traditions of local architecture have led to the development of the Russian style and neoclassical style in the building, as well as the preservation of a large percentage of wooden buildings. Numerous archival materials, first used for this work, allowed us to trace in detail, using concrete examples, not only the architectural and stylistic, but also the industrial and socio-cultural development of Kostroma in these years, which allowed the city to become one of the important cultural and industrial centers of the Russian North.
