For publications where an Article Publication Charge (APC) applies, Authors may be eligible for an APC waiver or discount in certain situations. Examples of this are:
- If the Corresponding Author of an article is from an institution based in one of the countries on the Hinari (Research4Life) list, then the APC is either fully waived (for countries in Group A) or a 50% discount applies (for countries in Group B). More details on Hinari eligibility and the countries in each group can be found here.
- In the case of a society-owned publication, APC waivers or discounts may be offered to society members.
- Certain article types are always exempted from paying any publication charges. This applies to the following: editorials, corrigenda, errata, corrections, retractions and letters to/from the Editor.
- Certain publications may have publication-specific APC waiver or discount offers. Such promotional offers will be shown on the homepage of these publications.
Please refer to a publication's homepage for further details on which APC waivers or discounts may apply. Note that if an article is eligible for multiple APC discounts based on above, then only one of these discounts can be applied at any given time. Different APC discounts may not be applied simultaneously to the same article.
