Journal of Software Engineering for Autonomous Systems Publishes First Issue

Athena International Publishing is pleased to announce that the "Journal of Software Engineering for Autonomous Systems" has published its first issue. This milestone was achieved under the Chief Editorial leadership of Mark van den Brand (Eindhoven University of Technology), Yanja Dajsuren (Eindhoven University of Technology) and Arash Saberi (Mithra-AI), the three Founding Editors of the journal.

The Journal of Software Engineering for Autonomous Systems (JSEAS) is an international, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to distributing research and industrial results in the field of autonomous systems and software engineering, as well as overview papers in this area. The subjects of interest to JSEAS cover the important aspects of the field such as autonomous systems and software architectures, software process, maintenance and quality, safety and security, autonomous and cooperative design and behavior, intelligent data processing, digital twins and data-driven engineering supported by cloud-environments. In addition to this, submissions on the development of, and challenges provided by, forthcoming and future autonomous systems, such as autonomous systems based on AI technology, are also welcomed. The journal aims to be relevant for academia as well as industry.

JSEAS was launched in 2022 as the successor journal to the Journal of Automotive Software Engineering which was discontinued at the end of 2021 after the acquisition of its former publisher Atlantis Press by Springer Nature. The aim was to attract a higher volume of papers by revising the editorial strategy, broadening the scope and expanding the Editorial Board. Under the Chief Editorial leadership of Mark van den Brand (Eindhoven University of Technology), Yanja Dajsuren (Eindhoven University of Technology) and Arash Saberi (Mithra-AI), the three Founding Editors of the journal, JSEAS now has an Editorial Board consisting of 21 members from 7 different countries and has successfully published its first issue.

Besides an introductory editorial, JSEAS' maiden issue consists of three articles. David A. Manrique Negrin et al. introduce the CarEs model: a cognitive emotion system of a car which contains a stress factor as part of the computation of emotions and as a decision variable. Vishwanath Nagnath Pai et al. study maps and their impact on the functional safety of automated driving vehicles. The final article by Sushant Kumar Pandey et al. presents an industrial case study on data handling for assuring production quality of image intensive autonomous drive systems. The next JSEAS issue is scheduled to be published in June 2024.
